How can impact investing scale with integrity?

Now that over $1 trillion of impact capital has been mobilized, and impact investing is increasingly mainstreaming, the next challenge is making sure this leads to actual positive outcomes for people and the planet.

Several reports and networks have provided helpful context, rationale, and challenges around impact integrity. While these frame the issues well, they have not moved attention and action significantly forward beyond what regulation has been able to offer.

We and other IMM practitioners play multiple roles in promoting impact integrity via advisory, field building, speaking, training. We already have a set of tools, practices, and lessons that can be shared, validated, and used for public good benefit.

We will engage with stakeholders to create a global community that builds the tools and know-how to drive impact integrity. We see ways to practically target the opportunities, incentives, and capacities to improve impact integrity at multiple levels.

Why This, Why Now?

Scaling impact investing, with integrity.

Need

Ongoing concerns about impact washing within and beyond impact investing, including the need to boost impact transparency and accountability for outcomes.

Driver

The global market is now over $1 trillion and growing rapidly – with significant interest in impact performance from philanthropy and blended finance.

Vision

Move impact integrity to the mainstream by establishing consistent fundamentals, shared tools and platforms, and collective action through aligned incentives.

Audience

Those who recognize that the next challenge is not simply mobilizing more impact capital, but making sure this leads to positive outcomes for people and planet.

Our Approach

We are inspired by the model of time-bound practitioner dialogue and community norms-building pioneered by the IMP.

Founding Team

We Are Field Builders

We’ve been at the forefront of developing impact measurement & management norms, standards, frameworks, and practices.

Over the last decade we’ve worked closely with those setting up the IMM architecture – from the Rockefeller Foundation to the IMP.

Our track record in building collaborative movements to solve for social issues is strong – for example place-based impact investing.

Matt Ripley

Deep experience across impact advisory services, expert in impact management norms and sustainability standards.

We Are Practitioners

Together, we’ve worked with over 200 organisations to help them measure and manage impact across all stages.

This represents over $30 billion in assets across the impact economy – from institutional capital, impact intermediaries, membership networks, and social enterprises.

Our work has led to practical toolkits that have received wide uptake – for example, the Ventures at the Helm IMM Guide.

Karim Harji

Founding Director of the Oxford Impact Measurement Programme; Field building on impact integrity with IMP, G8, GSG, and Rockefeller Foundation.
